Great Britain’s women booked a Doha World Cup place in Madrid, the men’s team fell just short after a marathon semi-final, and Tennis Scotland published the inaugural Scottish Open champions. Here is your UK round-up for 21 to 27 September 2026.
GB women qualify for FIP World Cup; men fall short in Madrid
Great Britain’s women sealed a place at the FIP World Cup for the first time since 2021, winning the European qualifier at Pádel G24 in Madrid (22–26 September) without losing a tie. Top seeds throughout, they took one of two women’s Doha spots with a 2–0 semi-final win over Poland on Saturday 26 September. Germany took the other women’s place by beating Denmark 2–1.
Britain’s top pair Aimee Gibson and Catherine Rose opened the Poland tie 6–0, 6–2 against Julia Pacocha and Magdalena Kiszczynska, having dropped just three games all week. Sixteen-year-old debutante Chloe de la Mare and Victoria Nicholas then sealed qualification 6–3, 3–6, 6–4 against Aleksandra Rosolska and Zofia Piorkowska. GB women’s coach Libby Fletcher called it a “new era for GB padel” in the LTA write-up; Spanish coach Iciar Montes joined the GB bench for the first time in Madrid.
The men’s campaign ended in the same semi-final round after a six-and-a-half-hour 2–1 defeat to Germany. Sam Jones and Chris Salisbury lost the opener to Johannes Lindmeyer and Benjamin Fitzon 6–4, 6–7, 3–6 after serving for the match at 6–5 in the second set. LTA national champions Louie Harris and Alex Loughlan levelled 4–6, 7–6, 7–6 against Agustin Reca and Matthias Wunner, before GB No.1 Christian Medina Murphy and Alfonso Patacho went down 6–4, 7–6, 6–4 to Christian Böhnke and Nick Merten. The Netherlands (men) and Germany (men and women) completed Europe’s four Doha places. The FIP World Cup runs 2–7 November in Qatar.
Scottish Open: Aymerich/Vega and Rico/Pooley crowned in Glasgow
Tennis Scotland’s champion write-up landed on 21 September for the inaugural Scottish Open Padel Championships (18–20 September at Racket Barn, Glasgow), the Grade One LTA Padel British Tour event that streamed Finals Day on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website.
Spanish seventh seeds Josep Aymerich and Rafael Vega beat home favourites Sam Macneil and Nicholas Hatchett 6–3, 6–3 in the men’s final, after Macneil/Hatchett had won their televised semi-final 6–1, 6–4 against Zyaan Ahmed and Imran Aswat. In the women’s event Ainhoa Rico and Rosie Pooley won both Finals Day matches without dropping a game, including a 6–0, 6–0 final against top seeds Lucy Jones and Abigail Ombler-Truran.
Tour returns: CUPRA Rotterdam P2
Premier Padel’s mid-September pause ends with the CUPRA Rotterdam P2 at Ahoy (qualifying from 27 September; main draw through 4 October). FIP lists prize money at €264,534, with men’s and women’s main draws of 28 and 24 respectively and finals scheduled for Sunday 4 October. For UK fans it is the next live tour stop after the Paris Major, and the first Premier Padel event since CUPRA’s mid-September LTA Padel automotive partnership announcement.
