How We Test Padel Gear
Anyone can copy a spec sheet. Our goal is to tell you how padel gear actually performs for real UK club players — and who each product is right for. Here’s how we approach every review and buying guide.
How we choose what to feature
We start with what UK players are actually buying and asking about, then shortlist the models that are genuinely available to buy in the UK right now. We don’t pad our lists with discontinued gear or products you can’t get hold of.
What we assess
For rackets we look at the things that change how you play: power, control, the size and forgiveness of the sweet spot, comfort and vibration, manoeuvrability, build quality and durability, and value for money. For shoes we focus on grip on UK surfaces, stability, cushioning, breathability and durability. For balls and accessories, it’s performance, longevity and value.
Hands-on, plus honest research
Wherever we can, our verdicts are informed by hands-on play across multiple sessions. Where we haven’t personally played with a specific model, we’re transparent about it and base our assessment on manufacturer specs, the wider range, professional usage and verified owner feedback — and we tell you so.
Our ratings
Each product gets a clear rating out of 10 and a plain-English verdict on who it suits best. A high score doesn’t mean “most expensive” — it means best for the player we’re recommending it to.
Honesty and updates
We flag the downsides, not just the highlights, and we never recommend something we wouldn’t be happy to play with ourselves. Prices and availability change fast, so we revisit our guides and show a last-updated date. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases — see our Affiliate Disclosure.
